Crafting Your Own Eco-Friendly Menstrual Pad
For some women, using disposable menstrual pads can be too much of a hassle since such products can dry out the delicate vulva and thus, cause soreness, itching, and the like. So, what better way to deal with this problem than to use eco-friendly menstrual pads instead? Although it may not seem to be acceptable or even possible, using cloth can be more beneficial than what people can imagine.
By reducing one's exposure to the chemicals used in making disposable pads, you will be able to protect yourself from the adverse effects of such toxic materials. Since cloth is a natural absorbing agent, it is cooler and more comfortable to wear as it allows the skin of your private part to breathe more freely. So, it reduces the possibility of fungal infections. Aside from that, getting rid of disposable pads is definitely beneficial to the planet. Using lesser sanitary pads made of plastic every month is one of the best things you can do to help save earth.
The best thing about cloth menstrual pads is that you can make them yourself if you do not want to buy from shops. All you need are some cloth, like cotton, hemp, fleece and flannel; a sewing machine; snaps; and some thread. Draw a pattern of the menstrual pad and cut it out. Place it on top of the cloth and cut out the pattern. The inner cloth is the absorbent part of the pad, which can be as many as you desire. Sew the inner cloth to the upper layer of the pad. Once that is done, sew the other layer on top of the inner cloth. And finally, install the snaps on both flaps of the pad so you can fasten it to your knickers.
