Tips on Curtain Care

Curtains are made differently, using varying fabrics. Hence, different curtains require different care. Curtains are highly visible window treatments covering a great space in your interiors. Caring and cleaning them properly will make them last longer, giving you more years of well-enhanced living spaces.

To make sure you observe appropriate curtain care, read labels and choose fabrics well. Ready-made curtains usually have labels indicating the composition or type of fabric, as well as care instruction for the material. Meanwhile, if you buy raw textile to be made into window treatments, ask the salesperson or tailor about the best ways to clean and wash the fabric. In addition, consider where you will hang the curtain in choosing the fabric. High traffic areas like the bathroom and kitchen will naturally call for more durable cloth with low maintenance, preferably machine-washable. Knowing whether the material is washable or not is of great importance since some will shrink or fade when in contact with water and soap. Some fabrics require to be washed in cold water, some in room-temperature water, and others in warm water, so you have to note of that, too. Knowing whether it easily fades is equally important because that will tell you the material cannot be hung in direct heat or sunlight and should be washed separately using mild soap. However, most fabrics are pre-treated to be shrink-resistant and fade-resistant. You may also spray stain-resistance solutions onto the fabric to make it more appropriate for tough use, particularly in children's bedrooms.

Even if budget is a concern, always go for quality when buying curtains. The amount of care needed by a durable material is lesser, saving you time in cleaning or washing it.
